Speak Easy

Come for the mic. Stay for the magic. Leave better.

Welcome to SPEAK EASY—a public speaking event disguised as a secret underground club for your voice.

Founded by actor, comedian, and coach Brian Lafontaine (hi, that’s me), Speak Easy was created for anyone who’s ready—or almost ready—to take the mic. Whether you’re prepping a keynote, refining your personal story, or just trying not to black out the moment you speak… this is your place.
Tucked inside a video store-turned-theater (seriously), this monthly gathering channels the energy of a classic speakeasy: intimate, low-pressure, and just a little hidden. A space where speakers feel safe to show up, mess up, and grow—without judgment.
We cap it at just 5 speakers per night so every person gets real time on stage and individual expert feedback—the kind you usually pay big bucks for. At Speak Easy, it’s included.
Not quite ready for the spotlight? No problem. Come watch. Listen. Sip something good. And soak in the magic of people being brave on stage. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being heard.
First Monday of every month: VisArt Cafe, Charlotte | Doors at 6:00 PM
Paid event | Limited space | Wine & snacks available
Speak Easy: VIRTUAL is held the second Monday of each month and is the virtual version of our LIVE in-person event for those who aren’t able to join us in our home city. We recreate the same vibe and same connections to create a supportive space and let you have fun while you improve your speaking skills.

Come join us for Speak Easy or Speak Easy: Virtual…or heck, go crazy and join us for both!

NEW DATES COMING SOON!

Speak Easy Cohort

From idea to stage: A small, supportive room where your voice actually gets heard.

The Speak Easy Cohort is a 6-week, small-group coaching experience designed to help you craft and deliver a 5–10 minute talk with confidence, clarity, and presence. Whether you want to speak more powerfully at work, share a story that matters to you, or prepare for bigger stages someday, this is where you build the foundation. This isn’t about becoming a “perfect speaker.” It’s about becoming a real one.

What You’ll Experience

  • Guided coaching from page to stage
  • Small group format (no more than 10 participants)
  • Interactive, on-your-feet workshop sessions
  • Individual feedback on delivery and presence
  • Real stage time to practice and refine
  • A final showcase performance for a live audience
  • A professional video of your talk for your reel and promotion

You won’t just write a talk. You’ll learn how to connect, hold attention, and trust your voice.

Who It’s For

This cohort is for people who feel the pull to speak… even if they’re not sure where to start.

You might be:

  • A professional who wants more confidence speaking
  • A founder shaping your message
  • A creative with a story to share
  • An aspiring speaker testing the waters
  • Or someone who’s simply tired of letting nerves run the show

No experience required. Just curiosity and a willingness to try.

Why This Is Different

Most speaking programs focus on slides and scripts.

This one focuses on presence, connection, and delivery.

With 30+ years as an actor, comedy performer, director and speaker, I bring a performer’s perspective to coaching. Helping you show up as yourself, not a “corporate version” of yourself.

Because audiences don’t connect with “perfect.” They connect with real.

Investment

$900 per participant.
Spots are intentionally limited to keep the experience personal, supportive, and high-touch.

A Gentle Nudge

If you’ve been thinking, “I should probably work on my speaking someday…”
This might be your someday.

Brian created a welcoming and fun environment for speakers to practice and grow. I left with actionable steps and more confidence for my next speaking engagement! It’s priceless to have an opportunity to practice storytelling and performance skills in a low- stakes environment with a supportive audience and helpful feedback from a world-class coach.
